Given that he’s been portraying Jack Deveraux, on and off, since 1987, it probably comes as no surprise to hear that Matthew Ashford was more than willing to reprise the part — even if the storyline (the possible resurrection of his slain baby girl) did give him momentary pause.

Matthew Ashford On Jack’s Return

“Just like Jack, I was very hopeful about it. I also realized that in this world, in Salem, these crazy, crazy things could happen,” offered the actor to Soap Opera Digest. “I was open to the craziness and any possibility. When a daughter’s still alive, it’s good. And as an actor I was like, ‘Yeah, it sounds cool.’ I was surprised and excited.”

On working opposite Billy Flynn AKA Jack’s beloved son-in-law Chad DiMera: “It’s been fun. We’re just laughing, obviously, through some of these things. We go off over that way and then come back into the scene, and it’s a little bit like a Three Stooges episode. We’ve kept going, although sometimes I look at his eyes and think, ‘How close are we to laughing?’ Billy’s a fun person to work with, that’s for sure.”

In summing up his most recent return engagement, Ashford could but enthuse: “I’ve been enjoying all of it. I’m just really glad to be back. I feel I’m very blessed to be part of this show.”
