For the last year, Adam Huss has been coming and going from General Hospital, first as a recast for Marcus Coloma to finish out Nikolas Cassadine’s story arc — and then on a recurring basis as Nikolas appeared off and on for the latter part of 2023.
Now, Nikolas is back again, has revealed himself to Ava, and is ready to team up with her to finally make Esme pay. Does that mean we are getting a real story for the Cassadine Dark Prince, as well as a return to “Nava”?
Why Nikolas Cassadine Is Needed
Nikolas Cassadine has been a major Port Charles player for nearly 30 years, with the character first introduced as Laura’s long-lost teenage son whom she left on Cassadine Island as an infant to return to her life with Luke. She always regretted leaving her son as a baby, which led to her excusing many of his heinous actions over the last few years.
Known as The Dark Prince, we watched Nikolas grow from teen to man, and inexplicably get colder and more calculating over the last decade. During that time, he has been presumed dead twice, but his darker side was emerging before the first false alarm death.
While fans are mourning the death of Tyler Christopher, the Emmy-winning actor who played Nikolas on and off from 1996-2016, the character is still an essential part of the show. Considering his ties to the Cassadines, to Laura, and to his son Spencer, Nikolas is an essential part of the GH fabric and he needs to be front and center in Port Charles.
Adam Huss Seems Ready For More
Whether Huss will be the permanent new Nikolas remains to be seen, but so far, it seems the show is leaning in that direction.
Huss has made it clear in social media posts how much he loves playing Nikolas and took to Twitter on Thursday to thank fans for support.
Massive gratitude for all the welcome back love I’m receiving from you wonderful #GeneralHospital fans!” Huss wrote. “As a TV fan myself, I know how impt it is to honor the legacy of a character and will continue to do so as #Nikolas from the great groundwork out there I get to study from.”
He also answered fan questions at a personal appearance in New York on December 30.
“All of the cast members have been so kind on this show. You don’t always get that on sets, especially in Hollywood, which, unfortunately, is a dog-eat-dog world,” Huss said, according to Digital Journal. “People have been so gracious to me on General Hospital, they want you to succeed, and they want the scene to succeed, which is such a level of professionalism.”
While it seems that the Nikolas and Ava dynamic that started with Christopher’s last days in the role will be played again, but Huss also told fans the one actor he would love to share more scenes with.
“I would love to work with Maurice Benard,” Huss revealed. “I’ve met him in the hallway and we talked a bunch. Maurice was very close to the late Tyler Christopher and Marcus too. Maurice was very welcoming,” Huss explained. “Maurice is very kind and a fantastic actor, so I would love to work with him.”
Will we get some intense Nikolas and Sonny scenes considering that Ava is now living with Sonny? Stay tuned to find out…
