With the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards show fast approaching, the gaggle of nominees is being rounded up and put under the microscope. When they learned and how they learned that their performances were for the gold, what thoughts sped through their heads, what they’ll wear to the kudos fest, who they’ll thank when they’re at the podium — seemingly nothing is off limits.<\/p>\n
In an exclusive chat with\u00a0Soaps In Depth<\/em><\/a>, Michelle Stafford (Phyllis Summers,\u00a0The Young and the Restless<\/em><\/a>), one of six contenders in the race for Lead Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actress, muses that, “It really is kind of new because last year, I think I hadn\u2019t received a nomination in, I think it was over 10 years,\u201d the actress confided to Soaps In Depth<\/em>. \u201cSo to get one last year and<\/em> this year is\u2026 yeah, it\u2019s new. You never expect them, ever. And it sounds so trite \u2014\u00a0and I don\u2019t even mean it tritely \u2014\u00a0but I am so honored. Not everybody gets this, and I\u2019m well aware of that. Shoot, not everybody is working!\u201d<\/p>\n The actress went on to explain to the outlet that the real trick isn’t picking out the perfect scenes to submit, but how those perfect scenes are edited into a whole: “I just feel like super-long tapes can be a killer…And you have to be really honest with yourself. Because sometimes you\u2019re like, ‘Oh, I like that moment. I like that moment.’ But yeah, you have to be a good editor, I think, nowadays because it\u2019s different. It used to just be you submit two shows in their entirety and now you submit a compilation.”<\/p>\n As for what Stafford\u00a0did<\/em> ultimately present the nominating committee: “I submitted the whole Phyllis spinning out and the culmination of her spinning out. And then there was a very, very long, lengthy scene that she had with a judge to exonerate her.”<\/p>\n And her one regret? That scene partner James Hyde (ex-Jeremy Stark) didn’t submit himself.
