General Hospital<\/em><\/a> viewers — and indeed Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis) — were reintroduced to a familiar face on Wednesday’s (May 22) airshow when Lane Davies<\/a> (ex-Cameron Lewis) debuted as Fergus Byrne.<\/p>\n

Lane Davies On GH Redux<\/h2>\n

“The material is good, and working with Nancy, it was really just a matter of falling back into the groove \u2014 and it was an easy groove to fall back into,” the actor insisted to\u00a0Soap Opera Digest<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

On how his return came about: “It was a combination of factors, I think. I know Nancy had been sort of making noises, like, \u201cGet Lane back somehow!\u201d<\/p>\n

Then I ran into Patrick Mulcahey [GH\u2019s exiting co-head writer, who was instrumental in coupling Davies and Grahm’s alter-egos at their former stomping ground, Santa Barbara<\/em>] at Bridget Dobson\u2019s [the co-creator of SB] funeral<\/p>\n

“We had a lovely lunch and visit, even though it was kind of a sad time, and I think he took a look at me and thought, ‘Well, he\u2019s holding up pretty well. Maybe we can get him on the show.’<\/p>\n

“I\u2019m honestly not sure, but I think it was a fortuitous combination of factors that got me back. I\u2019m at a stage in my life where if it seems like fun, I\u2019ll do it. My criteria is, Is it fun? Does it involve travel? Does it pay? Any one of those three will get me off my mountain and back to work, but it has to be at least one of those three \u2014 and this was all three.”<\/p>\n

On returning to GH 20 years after his last appearance: “I felt a little like Rip Van Winkle, you know? The building was the same. Some of the sets were the same. The dressing rooms are the same. Some of the staff had changed \u2014 there\u2019s a different security person at the front gate \u2014 but other than that, it was almost a surreal feeling of stepping back in time.”<\/p>\n

On reteaming with Grahn: “This time around it was just fun, for the most part. Nancy said, \u201cThis is just like falling off a bicycle!\u201d I think she meant \u201cfalling off a log\u201d or \u201criding a bicycle\u201d but she mixed her metaphors and we giggled about it for several days. It didn\u2019t take us more than five minutes to kind of get back into a rhythm. So, all in all, [it] was great fun.”<\/p>\n

As to whether he’d be open to continuing in his new role: “Oh, totally. Like I said, I\u2019m at a point in my life where if it\u2019s fun, I\u2019ll do it, and it\u2019s always fun to work with Nancy. And I like camera work. I don\u2019t do that much of it anymore, but I\u2019m not fully retired. I call myself semi-retired, which basically means I\u2019m lazy. But I had great fun this time and it fits my sort of life schedule of extreme slothfulness mixed with occasional bursts of energy and productivity [laughs<\/em>]. It suits that rhythm quite well.”<\/p>\n
