Longtime The Young and the Restless star Christian J. Le Blanc has been missing from the Genoa City scene for the last few months as fans have wondered where Michael Baldwin has been. He was all ready to defend Phyllis for her crimes, and then he was gone. Now, the actor has revealed that a serious diagnosis kept him from the set.
Christian Le Blanc’s Terrifying Story
During an interview with the Louisiana CBS affiliate 4WWL, Le Blanc admitted he was diagnosed with multiple myeloma earlier this year, a blood cancer that is thankfully in full remission. He started noticing symptoms on set when items like his character’s wedding ring easily fell from his fingers. That was a sign that he was losing weight. Random nose bleeds on set alarmed him, as well.
Eagle-eyed also noticed one very important symptom — a tumor in the lower center of his forehead by his optic nerve that caused him eye issues. He finally went to the doctor for an eye check, which led to his diagnosis. That helped him stop this aggressive cancer in its tracks before it had progressed too much.
Le Blanc’s Positive Prognosis
Le Blanc explained that his eye doctor told him to see a neurological ophthalmologist because his eye was a little droopy. The specialist was easily able to diagnose his cancer early enough to treat it correctly.
“I was diagnosed around June, Santa Monica, St. John’s Hospital, which I’d never been to I’d never spent a day in the hospital in my 65 years until this year,” he said in the 4WWL interview.
The actor is happy to be back on set and is following doctor’s orders to “eat like it’s your job” to gain back the 35 pounds he lost this year.
Le Blanc, who is back on set as Michael, recently participated in a local Louisiana cancer fundraiser with fellow soap stars called Little Big Cup.
