Thaao Penghlis Touts New Days of our Lives Head Writing Team: “[They] Are Making a Difference”

When Days of our Lives announced a slew of big-name returnees, devotees were thrilled — and no doubt surprised — to see Thaao Penghlis (Tony DiMera) among them.

Thaao Penghlis Says It Is “So Good To Be Back At DAYS”

After all, in May of this year, the actor declared to Soap Opera News: “I’m leaving the soap world. There are changes happening that I can’t discuss right now. It feels like it’s coming from somewhere else, maybe with a different writer. When people start taking you for granted, you change.” Sounds pretty definite, right?

But that was then, and this is now, and now Penghlis couldn’t be more thrilled to be back toiling behind-the-scenes (and in front of the camera).

He recently took to X with a snap of him and play brother Billy Flynn (Chad DiMera) which he captioned: “So good to be back at Days working with one of my faves. Billy is so special to work with. Since he’s had his two boys his heart has become more open. Thank u my friend for ur warm embrace. The new writers are making a difference. DiMera is back.”

Those “new writers” are, of course, Paula Cwikly and Jeanne Marie Ford.

Far from a soap opera neophyte, Cwikly has penned dialogue for The Young and the Restless, As The World Turns and Sunset Beach and she worked as both an associate and head writer at DAYS in the early aughts.

Prior to her elevation, Ford, who started his career at the soap as a writer’s assistant in 1992, penned breakdowns. She has also served on the writing teams at As The World Turns and One Life To Live.

Due to DAYS’ accelerated production schedule, episodes plotted by outsted Daytime Emmy Award winning scribe Ron Carlivati will continue to unspool well into April 2025.
