As a clip from Doug Williams’ earliest days plays, an emotional Julie (Susan Seaforth Hayes) can be heard declaring, “It’s time; time to say goodbye.” And indeed it is time to pay final farewells to the late, great, much-beloved Doug Williams (and his equally adored portrayer, Bill Hayes.)
No sooner is Kayla Brady Johnson (Mary Beth Evans) heard wondering who might turn up for the memorial than Steven Olson (Stephen Schnetzer), Julie’s bad boy baby brother (last seen in 1980), is shown spooking his sis; former Salemites (and bitter rivals) Liz Chandler (Gloria Loring) and Marie Horton (Maree Cheatham) are seen coming face-to-face; and then there are the shots of Belle Black (Martha Madison) letting herself into the family abode and Ciara Brady Weston’s (Victoria Konefal) deft hands opening the Horton family time capsule.
Many tears are shed by the ones who knew and adored Doug, but none more so than his daughter, Hope (Kristian Alfonso), who makes a private visit to his grave marker, a bouquet in hand.
