In what probably came as a surprise to no one (especially if you’re a frequent visitor to Daily Drama), Cyrus Renault (Jeff Kober, General Hospital) was revealed to be the fiend who injected digitalis into Sam’s I.V. bag.
What is throwing the audience is Cyrus’ motives for the killing — but we think that’s pretty self-explanatory.
Cyrus Renault’s Guilty Feeling
Cyrus did a bad, bad thing. Well, it was really Julian who did the bad thing by leaving a bomb in a crowded dive, but it was Cyrus who ordered him to do so, and he’s felt bad about that ever since, especially considering the blast put his niece into a coma that dragged on for four years.
During that time, life moved on for everybody but poor sweet Lulu (Alexa Havins). Laura (Genie Francis) focused her energies on the children and grandchildren who were still up and about, and Dante (Dominic Zamprogna) soldiered on — and in — with Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco).
Then came word that Lulu needed a liver transplant, and the necessity for a donor dramatically increased when someone monkeyed around with the patient’s ventilator.
There’s little doubt at this point that someone was Cyrus, probably operating under the assumption that the more danger Lulu was in, the likelier she’d get pushed to the top of the donor list.
As for why Sam had to die, well, her passing clears the deck for what Cyrus surely thought was the inevitable Dante/Lulu reunion. And now there won’t be much fuss or muss. Dante’s single, Lulu’s single, why not (re)mingle? That would certainly make the son that they share very happy. Not to mention Laura’s obviously thrilled to bits that her baby girl is back to her old self again — and if Laura’s happy, then Cyrus is happy…even if Laura isn’t happy with Cyrus.
One death so that Lulu could live the life she deserves? Yeah, Cyrus probably thought that was a bargain. Unfortunately for the pontificating preacher man, and even more so for Dex (Evan Hofer), the policeman was witness to Cyrus lurking ’round the 10th floor. Now they’ll have to be a second death…
