There aren’t many things that can get us to break out the tissues while we watch TV but General Hospital knows how to turn on our water works. We’ve cried a sea of tears since Kelly Monaco announced her exit as Sam McCall and today’s funeral was much the same.
Forever Our Sam McCall
We thought we were ready for this. We knew it was coming and when we turned on the telly today, we were sure we prepared for this. We were expecting it to be a sad day in Port Charles. But, what we were not prepared for was the overwhelming amount of raw emotions from the cast that went far beyond acting.
Our hearts broke over and over as each person took the podium to share their sentiments. Molly (Kristen Vaganos) and Kristina’s (Kate Mansi) goodbyes were like a punch gut. However, that was nothing compared to when Spinelli (Damian Spinelli) got up there and shared his stories of Sam. Or, watching Lucas (Van Hasis) at the cemetery trying to come to terms with his hand in his sister’s death.
The End of A General Hospital Legacy
The three that hit us the most, though, were Dante (Dominic Zamprogna), Jason (Steve Burton), and Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn). Their tears became our tears. Dante fell hard and fast for Sam and was ready to get married and cement their life tougher. Jason has spent the majority of his life in love with Sam. He’s her ride and die and his one and only. She’ll always be the one who got away.
Watching Alexis memorialize her daughter was perhaps the most heart-wrenching of all. She tore into our hearts the day Sam died in the hospital. Today, she tore into our souls. A mother’s love knows no bounds and Alexis proved today Sam’s legacy will never be forgotten.
The only saving grace is Sam’s death is not in vain. As her family and friends laid her to rest, Lulu (Alexa Havins) finally came back to life.
