1,973 days (give or take, he’s the one counting, not us!) after he bowed out as Young and the Restless’ Cane Ashby (a role he’d held since 2007), Daniel Goddard is returning to daytime — General Hospital to be specific.

“First and foremost, it’s an absolute pleasure to be back,” raved the actor to TVInsider. Per the outlet, Goddard will arrive in Port Charles on Tuesday, April 15 as Henry Dalton, the much-talked-about PCU professor of environmental physics.
Goddard professed that he wasn’t really mulling a return to acting when the opportunity presented itself, sharing: “I had kind of come to terms with that life.” But then his former manager, Michael Bruno, called him out of the blue.
In no time flat, Goddard was testing for the role of Jack Brennan, which ultimately went to ABC soap veteran Chris McKenna.
“A few weeks later, Michael called me and he said, ‘General Hospital called, and they’ve got this character, and they’re writing it, and they want you to do it.’ I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ I was just gobsmacked by it.
“It wasn’t a recast. It was a new character, and I was so blown away. I really felt like the timing was right, and I felt like it was meant to be. I can’t begin to express my gratitude to Frank and everyone at General Hospital and to Michael Bruno for really believing in me and being there.”
Goddard teased of his new alter-ego: “It seems there are some things in his past that he’s done that have left him in a position of some form of investigation. And from there, it’s an absolute mystery to me.”
And as for his experience thus far: “It’s been…extraordinary, wonderful…I just got new scripts, and I have four episodes coming up in one week, which I’m so excited about. It makes me feel wanted, in the sense that everything that I’ve gone through in this process up until now is meant to be. I couldn’t be more grateful to be back in what I think is probably the most beloved genre in all of entertainment.”
