With the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards show fast approaching, the gaggle of nominees is being rounded up and put under the microscope. When they learned and how they learned that their performances were for the gold, what thoughts sped through their heads, what they’ll wear to the kudos fest, who they’ll thank when they’re at the podium — seemingly nothing is off limits.
Robert Gossett On His Daytime Emmy Nomination
General Hospital’s Robert Gossett, one of the five gents competing for the Supporting Performance in a Daytime Drama Series: Actor trophy and last year’s winner told Soap Opera Digest that he learned about his nomination courtesy of his son: “[He] texted me some GIFs, probably four to five of them right after the other, and then he sent a screenshot of the list.”
On what the nomination means to him: “It means a lot. It’s humbling in the sense that it’s an award given by your peers who take a critical look at your work with a critical eye and a knowledgeable eye. It’s not publicity-driven. It’s also very gratifying as well.”
On what scenes he submitted: “[One] where I’m playing clarinet at Curtis and Portia’s wedding. I also sent one where I’m in the backyard and my [late] wife appears. I also sent one with Stella, where we were dancing like two old people. And at Christmas where I’m talking about an ornament.”
As for whether or not he’ll have a speech at the ready in the event of his win — something he was sorely lacking the last time he took to the stage: “I’m preparing this year! Last year, I was as unprepared as can be…Once your name is called, everything just tightens up as you’re walking to the dais and I didn’t know what I was going to say. It’s like your life is passing in front of you. I will be prepared this time and remember to thank Disney and ABC and the writers.”
