We’ve been prepping ourselves for Sam’s death since the day we found out Kelly Monaco was leaving General Hospital. We were prepared, we truly were. What we were not prepared for was Nancy Lee Grahn to dig so incredibly deep as grieving mother Alexis Davis saying goodbye to her eldest daughter. She truly ripped at our souls.
We Grieve With Alexis Davis
We had to grab our tissues when Alexis walked into the room with Sam’s body and frantically searched for a blanket to warm her body. She simply could not bring herself to register the loss and climbed into bed to keep Sam warm. It’s proof that the love of a mother runs deep.

As Alexis laid there holding onto Sam we felt her loss, her pain, her denial, and her hope that this was all just a bad dream. That she’d wake up to find Sam awake, alert, and smiling that gorgeous smile. The loss of a child, no matter how old they are, is incomprehensible and we feel for Alexis.
We watched as Alexis went through several stages of grief. The transition from denial to anger took our breath away. Her sorrow over the injustice losing Sam while she was saving another woman cut like a knife.
A Mother’s Sorrow Is Our Sorrow
Perhaps the most gut-wrenching moment of all was when Alexis tearfully poured all her love into Sam and kissed her goodbye one last time. There is no greater pain than watching a mother lose her child.
As for Nancy Lee Grahn, we’ve watched this woman act out several shocking and heartbreaking storylines over the years. She always pulls out all the stops, but these scenes will haunt us forever. This was a Daytime Emmy-winning performance if we ever saw one.
We have to give an honorable mention to Steve Burton. Jason’s final farewell to the love of his life also ripped into us. Watching him come to terms with losing Sam after their life of makeups, breakups, and true love is something we may never get over. Read more about that here.
What are your thoughts? Did you cry with Alexis? Did you cry with Jason? How do you feel about the show killing off Sam? Sound off in the comments!
