Laura Wright (Carly Spencer) has but one word for General Hospital’s special 62nd-anniversary episode, which triples as a tribute to Genie Francis and Dr. Monica Quartermaine’s late portrayer: “special.”
General Hospital News: Laura Wright Talks 62nd Anniversary Special
“This one honors Leslie Charleson, so that’s special,” she tells Soap Opera Digest. “And I get to work with people that I don’t usually work with on an everyday basis, because they sprinkle in different people from the cast together. There are a couple of scenes where everyone’s together, and that definitely feels special.”
Wright adds: : “I loved being on set with Finola Hughes [Anna Devane] and Jane Elliot [Tracy Quartermaine] and Wally Kurth [Ned Quartermaine].
“Most of the fun stuff is behind-the-scenes, like us being yelled at to stop talking and laughing so we can get to the scene and stuff like that. Us trying to take pictures of each other and them telling us to hurry and put our phones away and to hide the scripts: ‘We can see your scripts!’ …It was just a great day!
Carly begins her day accompanying precoshish daughter Donna on a tour of the titular institute, a highlight of which is the memorial wall.
Relates Wright: “Donna wants to go see…the wall of people who have passed away who made General Hospital so special. And then Felicia [Kristina Wagner] let’s Carly know, ‘We’re celebrating 62 years [since the hospital’s founding].’ “
Next up are some “very emotional,” “perfect,” and “bittersweet” scenes opposite long-time leading man Maurice Benard (Sonny Corinthos).
“They’re family,” Wright makes clear, before teasing: “There is stuff coming up in a few weeks, stuff going on with Sonny, where Carly steps up — without a doubt, without a question — into a spot of support. They are family, whatever has happened in their romantic life, and no matter what, she’s got his back and vice versa.”
As for the meat and potatoes of the episode, AKA the unveiling of the “Dr. Monica Quartermaine Cardiac Wing,” Wright previews:
“I didn’t really have a lot of dialogue in those scenes, I was just in them, but Genie Francis [Laura Spencer Collins] has a lot to say. And I told her like, ‘I don’t think anyone can stand up and give a speech, a eulogy, a toast at a wedding better than Genie Francis!’
“…It feels like home when Genie’s there, and you feel like you’re part of a really beautiful cast with her at the center.”
General Hospital News Nuggets
* Nicholas Alexander Chavez (ex-Spencer Cassadine) will be among a new crop of potential slaughterees for the dreaded Fisherman in the latest iteration of I Know What You Did Last Summer.
Scheduled for release on July 18, 2025, the Jennifer Kaytin Robinson-helmed slasher hails from Leah McKendrick.
Per the official synopsis: “When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge.
“As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.”
The fright flick sees Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. reprise their roles of heroine Julie James and Ray Bronson from the franchise’s first two installments (I Know What You Did Last Summer and I Still Know What You Did Last Summer).
Billy Campbell, Chase Sui Wonders, Madelyn Cline, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Haur-King, Lola Tung, Austin Nichols, and Gabbriette will also star.
* Kim Delaney (ex-Jackie Templeton; ex-Jenny Gardner Nelson, All My Children) was arrested on Saturday, March 29, on a charge of felony assault likely to cause great bodily injury. Her husband, James Morgan, was likewise booked for misdemeanor domestic violence.
According to TMZ, Delaney phoned the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department on Friday night and made a domestic violence report against Morgan who’d vacated the marital home following a raucous dispute. When Morgan returned the following day, Delaney placed another call to authorities.
Morgan spoke with officers at the scene and produced a video appearing to show Kim trying to hit him with her car.
Far from her first brush with the law, Delaney was previously cuffed for DUI — she pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of reckless driving and was sentenced to two years probation, fined $300, and ordered to take a safe-driving class — and in January 2024 she was sued by a motorcyclist who claimed she struck him with her car then attempted to flee the scene.
* Tabyana Ali (Trina Robinson) recently detailed “a busy day” on set, which included multiple costume changes, a bit of boogie, and the recording of a song. Might we have gotten our first tease of a returning Nurses Ball?!
