The General Hospital canvas has changed quite a bit over the past few months. It seems every time fans catch their breath with all the casting changes, more news comes their way. This time, devastating reports are coming in that Leslie Charleson has taken her final bow as the much-loved Monica Quartermaine.
Goodbye, Leslie Charleson?
While the show has not confirmed the reports, rumor has it Charleson is in no rush to resume work since her exit in December of last year. According to Closer Weekly, the actress has not fully bounced back from her most recent fall and sadly, that means taking an extended or permanent step away from acting.
According to their source, Closer was told that Leslie is “doing her best to recover” from her most recent injuries but “it’s harder for her to get around at her age.” They also cited that she’s still getting out to see friends and staying social.

The source also made the bombshell comment that is breaking hearts across the soap verse. “Although she’d be welcome back to the show with open arms, it’s unlikely she’ll ever return.” As the longest-running cast member, this news cuts deep and her missing presence definitely leaves a void.
What Does This Mean for the Quartermaine Family?
Does this mean all hope is gone that we’ll see Monica again? Will the show bring back Patty McCormack to take over like they did back in 2018? Charleson was more than impressed by her the last time she temporarily stepped up as Monica. Or, will the show break even more hearts by writing the character off?
As the matriarch of the group, we have to wonder who will step into those shoes. So far, Tracy (Jane Elliot) has been filling in as the go-to for the Quartermaine crew, will she continue? Will she become the new woman of the manor and run the family as she sees fit? We’ll have to stay tuned to see which direction the show takes.
