In August 2024, four men were arrested and charged in connection to the shooting death of General Hospital alum Johnny Wactor. Today, two of those individuals who were convicted on lesser charges were sentenced.
Two Sentenced In Connection To The Murder Of General Hospital Alum Johnny Wactor
According to Deadline, twenty-two-year-old Frank Olano received five years and eight months in state prison for being an accessory after the fact, receiving stolen property, and three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon.
Some six hours later, a judge sentenced Leonel Gutierrez to four years in prison for one count each of attempted robbery and grand theft. As previously reported, the youth (18 years old at the time of his arrest) pleaded guilty to the charges in September 2024.
Wactor, 37, was gunned down in downtown Los Angeles in the early hours of Saturday, May 25. Anita Joy, Wactor’s coworker and a friend of over a decade, recounted how he’d escorted her to a nearby parking lot where they chanced upon three men interfering with the actor’s vehicle.
Per Ms. Joy’s harrowing recollection, Wactor approached the men and “simply stated that it was his car and for them to leave. Hands open to his sides in peace. Johnny was between me and the man who shot him.”
Robert Barceleau, who police identified as the triggerman, and Sergio Estrada, both 18 years of age, are expected to return to court on January 22. The co-defendants have been charged with “one count each of murder and attempted second-degree robbery…and one count of grand theft involving the alleged removal of catalytic converter from another vehicle within two miles and less than a half-hour before Wactor’s killing.”
In addition, Barceleau is facing “a special circumstance allegation of murder during the commission of a robbery, along with allegations that he personally and intentionally discharged a firearm causing great bodily injury and death to Wactor.”
Last month, allegations were filed that the crime was committed for the benefit of a criminal street gang, namely the Florencia 13.
