After a week off, The Daily Drama Podcast — proudly brought to you by DailyDrama.com — has come roaring back (!) and Bradford Anderson and Steve Burton have welcomed an incredible encore guest (and one of their favorite people) – John J. York (Mac Scorpio).
John J. York On The Latest Daily Drama Podcast Episode
At the top of the interview, the hosts touted York’s status as “Number 1 Grandpa” to four tots ranging from 7 to (not quite) 1 — and yes, he does have the mustachioed mug to prove it!
The actor then relayed his hard-fought battle with myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and smoldering multiple myeloma, his treatments, including a blood stem cell transplant, his new partnership with the National Marrow Donor Program — “a support system, an information system, and a help system” for bone marrow & blood stem cell transplant donors and patients — and his triumphant return to the General Hospital set.
The latter York granted was “a very emotional day because everyone was very nice. Everybody that I saw [as] I was walking in, literally as I was driving into the lot, was welcoming me back, and giving me a hug…so it was very nice coming up on set…As you know, we rehearse the scene, so Kristina [Wagner, Felicia Scorpio] and I had a really, really, very warm hug…it was amazing. And just to do the scene, and to watch the show…it was really, really well done. I was very happy with it, and the audience seemed very happy with it, so it was pretty awesome.”

With a little prompting, he then cast his mind back to 1991, the year that he (and, coincidentally, Steve) made his debut on the ABC sudser: “That was a whole different time. I came on the show at an interesting time. 1991. Gloria Monty came back to revitalize the show, to pump some life into it. Tony [Geary] was off the show. He didn’t want to play the character of Luke anymore, he wanted to try something new so they brought in Bill Ekert with a whole new family…which meant they had to let go [of a lot of people].
“I was lucky. I came in to enhance [the Scorpio family]. And I got a very nice welcome, a very nice greeting, and that kind of carried me through. So I’m very thankful, very blessed that everything has worked out the way it has.”
York went on to drop some more fascinating nuggets — you’ll never guess the role he tested for on DAYS — muse on Mac’s pretty eclectic resume, and offer an opinion on Mac and Cody’s (Josh Kelly) still developing relationship:
“I feel like we’re still not completely there even though we’ve made up and we’ve come together as father and son, we’re really just at the beginning of this, and who knows what things are going to take place along the way…”
The latest installment of the Daily Drama Podcast is a rollicking good time. But don’t just take out word for it. Check it out in full, then take to the comments section and share your thoughts. And afterward, why not give Daily Drama’s brand-new app a try? It’s got Burton’s and Anderson’s seal of approval after all.
