Braedyn Bruner, she of the ‘resting smile-face,’ is the latest guest to join hosts Bradford Anderson and Steve Burton on The Daily Drama Podcast — brought to you by DailyDrama.com.
Welcome Back To The Daily Drama Podcast, Braedyn Bruner
A native of Lucas, Texas — “We had one bait and feed store, two stop lights, and one high school.” — Bruner started attending acting class at age 5 in an attempt to cure her shyness and quickly became “addicted.”
She originally auditioned for a role in General Hospital back in 2021. “[It was] right after the pandemic happened, and I guess it was actually for the role of Esme, now that I’m looking back…But then again, you never know. They give you fake sides.”
A callback wasn’t in the cards, but then opportunity came knocking a second time. “I started in the audition process in September of last year…I had actually just gone home to visit my family in Texas. I hadn’t seen them in a while. I went home, got a self-tape for General Hospital, put myself on tape — as you do — not expecting to hear anything.
“And then, I think it was a week later, I flew back for a producer’s session and I also chemistry read, and then I flew back [to Texas] which was a mistake. They called me back in for a second producer’s session, and then I stayed; I used my brain. And then I screen tested a few days after that with Gio [Mazza, Giovanni Palmieri] and Finola [Hughes, Anna Devane].”
There was some familiarity with the ABC sudser –“Both of my parents were huge General Hospital fans. My grandmother was as well, particularly during the Luke and Laura stories, so they definitely educated me.” — and Brurner had previously worked with Jeff Kober [Cyrus Renault] in a coming-of-age drama flick, but there’s no denying that the pace of a daytime drama is “SO very different” from what she’s used to.
And speaking of differences, little Emma Drake all grown up isn’t exactly how the fans remember her — and Bruner understands the criticism. “She’s a lot, but I want people to know that she has a really good heart, and she’s incredibly loyal to those that she loves and to her friends and family, and she sometimes, maybe, misses social cues or maybe comes in really passionate before thinking, and I think this is her journey of self-actualization.”
Bruner also teased that: “We’re going to see more and more of what her motivations are, what makes her ticket, why is she so hyper-focused on this animal cruelty thing.”
