Character actress Alice Hirson has died. She was 95.

Her Valentine’s Day passing was confirmed by Chris McKenna (Jack Brennan, General Hospital; ex-Joey Buchanan, One Life to Live et al.). He wrote on Instagram: “We lost a radiant soul and a daytime legend yesterday. Alice Hirson shone her light on this world for 95 glorious years. My family and I were so blessed to have her in our lives however briefly. Unforgettable woman. Her final words were, ‘It’s nice to have an audience.’ Thank you, Alice. Good night. Legend.”
The New York City native’s prolific resume includes roles in such popular programs as Murphy Brown, Law & Order, NYPD Blue, Judging Amy, Just Shoot Me, and Cold Case. She starred as Lois Morgan, the mother of Ellen DenGeneres’ titular Ellen, and appeared in eight episodes of 7th Heaven as Annie Camden’s mother.
Hirson is no doubt fondly remembered by soap opera fans as Mis Ellie Ewing’s sounding board, Mavis Anderson, or for one of her many other portrayals, including preeminent psychopath Stephanie Martin in The Edge of Night, Marcia Davis in Another World and Somerset, and Siegel family matriarch Eileen in One Life to Live.
Her film credits include The Gang That Couldn’t Shoot Straight, Nightwing, Being There, Private Benjamin, and Revenge of the Nerds.
Hirson was predeceased by her second husband, actor Stephen Elliot, whom she met during a stage production of Traveller Without Luggage.
* 24-year-old South Korean actress Kim Sae-ron, who starred in Netflix’s Bloodhounds and an adaption of TNT’s Leverage, was found dead in her home in Seongsu-dong just before 5 p.m. local time on Sunday, Feb. 16 per the Yonhap News Agency.
The outlet is now reporting that the star’s cause of death was unaliving, with an officer declaring: “We believe she made an extreme choice and plan to handle it as [such].”
A child model, Sae-ron broke into acting at age nine via the 2009 feature A Brand New Life. Subsequent roles included he action-thriller The Man from Nowhere and several series, including Kiss Sixth Sense, Excellent Shaman Ga Doo Shim, Nobody Knows, Glamorous Temptation, and To Be Continued.
Sae-ron career was severely curtailed following a drunk driving incident in May 2022, and her performance in the aforementioned Bloodhounds (which was reportedly minimized due to lingering controversy) serves as a swansong.
