Thom Christopher, best known to the TV audience for his turn as Hawk in Buck Rogers in the 25th Century and mercurial mobster Carlo Hesser in One Life to Live passed away on Thursday at the age of 84. A cause of death has not been disclosed.
Thom Christopher, Rest In Peace
Anthony Crivello (Johnny Dee, OLTL), confirmed the news about his TV dad in the early hours of Friday morn. He wrote:
“My dear friend of many years, actor Thom Christopher passed today. He was always a gentleman, always supportive, and he and his wife Judith who proceeded him in death, where [sic] always gracious to me and welcoming. Thom and I worked together on the ABC daytime series One Life to Live in the 1990s…. It was a wonderful time, difficult hours and long days, but joyful each minute. May Thom fly on Wings of Angels to be beside his beloved Judith, and may they enjoy each other’s company once again, beside the ‘Pearly Gates’ of heaven.”
Christopher made his television debut in 1974 when he played Noel Douglas in The Edge of Night, and gained a significant fanbase upon joining the second season cast of Buck Rogers as Hawk, the “lone survivor of an ancient race of bird people.”
He would, of course, go on to portray Carlo — which netted him an Outstanding Supporting Actor Daytime Emmy — and his meek twin Mortimer Bern in OLTL. His onscreen coupling with Tonja Walker’s wild and wacky Alex proved an audience favorite, and the pair frequently bedeviled the good folks of Llanview.
Christopher’s additional credits include a plethora of stage triumphs — he picked up a Theatre World Award for his work in Noël Coward in Two Keys at the Ethel Barrymore Theater — parts in two other daytime dramas (Loving and Guiding Light), numerous appearances in popular primetime fare (Cannon, Hunter, Kojak, Law & Order, Murder, She Wrote , etc.). His film roles include Shark in Wizards of the Lost Kingdom and Troxartas in Deathstalker and the Warriors from Hell. His final screen role was 2017’s ADDicted.
