Daily Drama News: Y&R’s Devin Owens On New Character
In an interview with TVInsider’s Stephanie Sloane, the Days of our Lives alum offered that his alter-ego “plays a very delicate role in this scenario, and he’s a very mysterious guy. He holds his cards close to the vest and he keeps things tight. I like diving into the mysterious world my character has. I very much enjoy this character and the depth that he can bring to the show.”

* Bidding the cast and crew adieu was no easy feat, but there is one thing that departed Evan Hofer (ex-Dex Heller) won’t miss at the General Hospital studio. “The tea selection was a little weak,” he granted Soaps.sheknows. Luckily, he always had a stash from home — which Finola Hughes (Anna Devane) and Emma Samms (Holly Sutton) much appreciated.
“Finola and I would compare teas, and when Emma was there, I told her, ‘Please, if you ever need any teas, I’ve got you.’ ”
* In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Beyond The Gates‘ creatrix, Daytime Emmy Award-winning scribe Michele Val Jean, relayed that her passion project exists in “a different kind of world. The characters are different from anything that I’ve seen in daytime. That’s what I’m excited about. We’re presenting something that hasn’t been done before.” Namely, BTG will speak “to a different side of the Black experience. Not the downtrodden, not the ghettoized. We wanted to show rich, Black people doing messy things.”
There’s promises of secrets and lies and betrayals and love and friendship,” and the central clan, the monied Dupress, evoke the best of soap families past. “[They] don’t always agree. But when push comes to shove, that family will stick together, right, wrong or indifferent. That is basically the foundation of the show. There’s dysfunction, but at the end of the day, they love each other.”

* Oh, nose! Linden Ashby (ex-Cameron Kirsten, The Young and the Restless) recently took to Instagram with a pic of his bruised and battered honker and quite the accompanying story. He punned: “I fought the board and the board won,” before adding, “Paddling in 2 foot shore break tried to catch one on my belly and just got lit up! Face smashed into the deck of my board almost knocked unconscious, broke my nose. Jeez… I just wanted to catch a few waves this morning. Lol.”
* On Monday, January 13th, following Hoda Kotb’s retirement from Today With Hoda & Jenna, the morning gab fest will relaunch as Today With Jenna & Friends , and host Jenna Bush Hager will be joined by a rotating mix of Hollywood luminaires, including Keke Palmer, Taraji P. Henson, Eva Longoria, and Scarlett “Black Widow” Johansson.
On scoring ScarJo, Bush Hager gushed: “[She] is the queen! First of all, I’ve been obsessed with her movies since forever. The Girl with a Pearl Earring, I mean that shows you I’m a nerd who loves to read. She’s also a big reader, which will be so much fun. We have so much in common.” (People.com was the first to report.)
* Though she’s as busy as she’s ever been, Jen Lilley would most definitely be up for a return to Days of our Lives…assuming it was short(ish) and sweet. ” “Soaps demand a whole other level of commitment,” she rued during a recent chat with Soap Opera Digest. “Right now, my family comes first, and I’m prioritizing this season of life with my children. So, while I’d love to come back in smaller arcs when the timing is right, I’m not in a position to take on the full-time commitment that DAYS demands.”
If/when she does return, the actress will have to reckon with a particularly unseemly action undertaken by Theresa in her absence (you’ll remember that Emily O’Brien stepped into the role for a number of months). “I did hear at Christmas Con that Theresa kidnapped a baby [Victoria], and I was genuinely shocked.
“Considering everything Theresa went through with Tate being kidnapped, that storyline felt really out of character to me. I’m curious to understand how the writers made that decision, because, by the time I left, Theresa had grown so much as a person..”
