It turns out you can go home again. Seventeen years after stepping down as supervising producer, uber-talent Edward J. Scott, who’s toiled behind-the-scenes at The Bold and the Beautiful since 2010, is returning to helm The Young and the Restless as its senior producer.
Edward J. Scott Back To Y&R As Senior Producer
Per Deadline, who was the first to break the story, the CBS sudser’s incumbent headwriter/executive producer, Josh Griffith, will remain in both positions.
Scott began his longtime association with Bell-Phillip Television Productions in 1976 when he boarded Y&R as an associated producer. By 1987, he’d ascended to the executive producer’s chair. Innovations and milestones throughout Scott’s tenure include the soap nabbing the #1 position in the ratings (summarily dethroning raining champion General Hospital), the retiring of the charcoal sketches that originally featured in the opening credits, and becoming the first daytime drama to be broadcast in HDTV.
Scott would go on to serve as the co-executive producer of Days of our Lives (2007-2008), before returning to Y&R as its supervising producer from 2004 to 2007.
Scott, a Scott is a seven-time Daytime Emmy winner, and his beloved wife, Y&R star Melody Thomas Scott (Nikki Newman), were honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards at the most recent Daytime Emmy Awards gala.
