A wedding, a revamped set, and a few surprises are all in store this week as The Young and the Restless celebrates 13,000 episodes. Eric Braeden is over the moon to be back on his beloved set and he’s promising to stay there for the time being.
Eric Braeden IS The Young and the Restless
TV Line got in touch with the famed actor to ask his thoughts on the show, the new/old ranch, and the future of The Great Victor Newman. First and foremost, they dished on the walk down Memory Lane when the original Newman Ranch was set back up.
“I sat there and I was a little overwhelmed. I really was touched because the old set meant so much to the Nikki/Victor relationship,” Braeden shares. “And they did a wonderful job. I was just flooded with emotions because it’s stepping back into a milieu that we’ve almost forgotten about. It touched me.”
Seeing the set also brought up memories of his first weeks on set. As many of his fans know, Braeden only intended to stay on the sudser for a three month run. When he had the option to stay, he jumped at the chance. “I realized that from then on, the character would assume enormous complexity and that’s what attracted me to it. And that’s why I’m still here because you don’t get that kind of character, certainly not on nighttime.”
Victor’s Future Is Dramatic, Indeed!
Every year rumors start to swirl that Y&R’s leading man is leaving the show. Braeden assures nothing could be further from the truth, at least for now. “I will not, I don’t want to,” he states. “The [bladder] cancer is under control and I will have another cystoscopy in about a month, and if that is negative, then I’ll be free for a while.” He went on to share that his new knee is holding up pretty good as well. As long as everything stays on the up and up, Braeden intends to keep his position on the show.
Staying put means bringing the drama, and we can always count on Braeden to bring the heat. “Victor gets even with people, and he has not forgiven that night of debauchery between Jack and Nikki [in May],” teases Braeden. “He thinks hanky panky went on and Victor doesn’t forgive or forget that.”
