With the 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards show fast approaching, the gaggle of nominees is being rounded up and put under the microscope. When they learned and how they learned that their performances were for the gold, what thoughts sped through their heads, what they’ll wear to the kudos fest, who they’ll thank when they’re at the podium — seemingly nothing is off limits.
John McCook On His Daytime Emmy Award Nomination
Eric Forrester’s (still to be identified) medical malady proved to be the gift that kept on giving. Not only is The Bold and the Beautiful up for big honors (Best Daytime Drama Series and Writing) but the likes of Jennifer Gareis (Donna Logan) and Ashley Jones (ex-Bridget Forrester) and even the ailing man of the hour are competing for Daytime Emmy gold.
“The joke is always when you’re in a coma or whatever, everybody else gets to pull up a stool and work on their Emmy reel, but you don’t get to,” McCook good-humoredly relayed to Soaps In Depth. “The fact is, it was a wonderful story and the fact that it involved the whole cast, or at least a lot of the people on the show, is the best thing about a good story on a soap… it involves everyone.”
The actor certainly had a plethora of dramatic developments to sift through. But what, exactly, did he land upon for his reel? Revealed McCook: “I submitted part of a scene with Eric and Ridge in Eric’s office where he is enjoying being behind his own desk. Then a scene in the middle, which was at Eric’s home with Donna where he confesses to her how frightened he is. And then at the end of Eric’s life, apparently, when he collapses at the party and he realizes that everybody is aware that he did not win the competition and that Ridge had been lying for him all those months.”
The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony will be telecast on Friday, June 7 at 8 PM EDT/Delayed PT on CBS (with a concurrent live stream and the ability to watch on-demand on Paramount+).
