When Days of our Lives approached Linsey Godfrey about Sarah getting struck down and becoming paralyzed, it brought up some old feelings, and understandably so. For those who aren’t familiar, the actress suffered through an accident eerily similar to her alter-ego’s fate.
Linsey Godfrey Tells Her Story
We had the high honor of sharing some time with Linsey Godfrey during our highly entertaining exclusive interview with her and Paul Telfer (Xander). They touched on their current storyline and what we can expect for Xarah going forward. During that chat, Godfrey touched on her feelings about Sarah’s story and reflected on her own trauma.

Godfrey was in a horrifying accident back in 2015. Much like Sarah, she was simply walking down the street on a lovely afternoon when she was struck by a careening car. Thankfully, she survived, but it wasn’t without serious injuries which included both her legs being broken and months of recovery. As you can expect, playing out a similar tale on television hasn’t been easy.
“It was really hard, actually,” Godfrey told our staff. “At first, it was sheer panic thinking they were getting rid of me and then there were a lot of emotions. My daughter was seven months old when I got run over by a car and had both my legs broken. So, this story is very close to home since Sarah also has a young baby.”
She went on to discuss the process of getting back in a wheelchair for the role. “It was as really, really hard, and then getting back in a wheelchair because I did spend a couple of months in a wheelchair, getting back in one again was just really, really, really triggering,” the beloved actress explains. “I had a very interesting reaction to getting in the wheelchair and immediately started crying. I don’t like crying in front of people. Linsey’s tears are not Sarah’s tears. Reliving that trauma was difficult.
“Even little things like they wanted to put a neck brace on me. I have PTSD from all the things that have happened in my life, and it sent me reeling so they couldn’t even put the neck brace on me. I think maybe had it been not attached to a car accident as a separate thing, I would have been okay, but yeah, it was really, really, really hard.”
Godfrey’s saving grace during all this? Her cast and crew! The show took every step possible to ensure that Linsey felt as safe and secure as possible while going through the scenes. “Janet [Drucker], our EP, reached out and told me that they would make a therapist available if I needed to talk to them. Everybody became very sensitive on set. All of the directors and the producers on site were very sensitive to that and definitely talked me through it and asked me questions because I lived it. For something that was so hard to do, they definitely were on my side with doing it.”
Like the consummate professional that she is, this talented actress doesn’t shy away from doing hard things, and her drawing from her experience is certainly paying off on camera! DAYS fans tune in every day to see what’s next for their favorite couple. Godfrey doesn’t hesitate to show her love for her fans. “I’m grateful to them. I’m so happy they’re rooting for us!”
