Paul Telfer and Linsey Godfrey were just as thrilled as Days of our Lives fans for Sarah and Xander to exchange wedding vows. And, they were just as rattled to hear their happily-ever-after wouldn’t start off so happy. We caught up with the famed TV couple for a chat about what’s coming up for ‘Xarah!’
Linsey Godfrey & Paul Telfer Spill All!
First and foremost, we had to ask how it is working with Hollywood legend Serena Scott Thomas. As you can expect, the actors gushed about Telfer’s TV mom. ” I’ve been wanting them to bring a mother on Xander for years, and then of course, when they did it, I was not consulted at all,” Telfer jokes. “So it was all a big surprise and actually happened and I was really nervous because I really wanted it to work. And as soon as she showed up, all my nerves and fears went out the window because she came in with such an incredible attitude. She found it all so much fun.”
One would think Fiona would want to pack her bags and vamoose knowing she’s the reason Sarah’s down and out, but much to our shock, the pair confirmed she’ll play a key part in Sarah’s recovery. “Fiona takes it as an opportunity to become closer to both of us,” Paul confirms. “Her guilt manifests as her becoming a really good mom to Xander and a caretaker to Sarah.”
A carer is exactly what Sarah is going to need in the coming months. Godfrey knows this all too well. Back in 2015, she suffered through an accident quite similar to Sarah’s (you can read more about that here). “My daughter was seven months old when I got run over by a car and had both my legs broken, so it hit very close to home,” Linsey shares. “It was really, really, really triggering reliving that trauma.”
If Fiona is putting on the front of a sweet and devoted mother, what does that mean for Brady (Eric Martsolf)? “Xander isn’t particularly good at controlling his impulses. He’s really quite sad because of what happened to Sarah but he’d rather be angry,” Telfer warns. “He wants Brady arrested, but that’s not good enough. He wants Brady in a wheelchair and starts towards making that happen. There’s a lot of old Xander coming out.” Of course, that whopper of a lie will have to come out eventually. And, when it does, Fiona is going to have some serious answering to do!
There are also big moments for Xander coming up, too! He’s the official heir to the Kiriakis fortune, which means he’s well on his way to reaching Family Patriarch status. It’s a dream come true for Xander, but like many things in his life, it may not last. “What’s really interesting is how this story plays out towards the climax,” Telfer tells us. “He’s forced to essentially make some really huge decisions about Titan when an opportunity comes along to cure Sarah.”
In the meantime, Sarah and Xander do their best to adjust to their new reality. There are a ton of challenges coming their way while raising their young daughter with Sarah paralyzed. It won’t be all doom and gloom, however. There are some sweet family moments on the horizon. “Please stay tuned for the Christmas episode,” Linsey hints. “It’s so funny with the baby and all the hijinks I had to do to wrangle this baby. It’s the funniest!”
Before signing off, the couple wanted to send out a special message to their Xarah fans. “Thank you for your patience and know we’re grateful to our viewers.” While they couldn’t promise their alter-egos won’t be sidelined again, they did make it clear they love the pairing just as much as the fans do.
