If you’re one of the many General Hospital devotees bemused, bewildered, and out and out bothered by Big Bad Brennan’s sudden name change — first he’s a John and now he’s a Jack?! — no easy answers are forthcoming…but actors Adam J Harrington (John “Jagger” Cates) and Charles Mesure (he of the name change) have their opinions.

What Is In A Name?

To the fan who wondered, “Did you guys battle over the name John?” Harrington offered, “We left that to great minds than ours, and Jack is a killer name. Maybe they arm wrestled.”

Jokester Mesure then pipped in with, “I told ABC I’ll do GH as long as my name is John. You know, John Wayne, JFK and so forth. Then this other guy shows up, this [Adam J. Harrington] who’s arguably more handsome than me. Now I’m Jack. That’s cool. I’m a team player. Y’all are lucky I like the name Jack. Just watch out [Adam J. Harrington]…”

So, mystery solved? Not exactly. But on a soap where the world has faced not one, but TWO mass-extinction events and hosted an alien from the planet Lumina, what’s a little retroactive renaming? And it’s not like this is the first time. When first she appeared, Selena Wu (Lydia Look) was known as Nina Wu.
