As General Hospital fans saw during Monday’s airshow, Spinelli (Bradford Anderson) and Maxie’s (Kirsten Storms) plan to hit up Corinthos safehouses in search of Jason (Steve Burton) hit a major snag courtesy of the latter forgetting to gas up her car. But what wasn’t made clear was that the scenes in question were shot on location — well, the studio parking lot — and at night.
Bradford Anderson Gives Us The Skinny
“Normally car scenes are filmed on the sound stage,” detailed Anderson to Daily Drama. “They bring a car through the loading dock and are able to create whatever scene they see fit…We weren’t quite sure why they decided to film our car scene [the way that they did], but it was a fun departure from the normal!” A departure indeed.
While a studio-bound shoot offers a controlled and insulated environment, location shooting presents its fair share of hazards.
So, what did Anderson, Storms, and co. have to contend with to get their scenes air-appropriate? For one, sound issues from a nearby lingering helicopter, sirens, and “other sounds of Los Angeles,” not to mention malfunctioning light sources, and a later than normal start time of 6:30 PM.
“But true to soap form, we completed our 4 scenes in time to be out before a required dinner break,” quipped Anderson.
As for Maxie’s insistence that it was time for Spinelli to move out, the actor could but muse, “We’ll see if a little distance makes the heart grow fonder or if it’s ‘out of sight, out of mind.”
