There were no doubt tears aplenty as General Hospital fans watched two Alexis (Nancy Lee Grahn) and Jason (Steve Burton) bid Sam McCall (Kelly Monaco) adieu — but they weren’t the only ones tore up by the unfolding scenes.

Grahn took to X and assured devotees that, “As hard as it may be for [GH] viewers to watch today’s episodes and the episodes to follow, it was equally as hard for me and my casemates to play. Playing Kelly Monaco’s mom has been effortless and the love is real.”
The Long Road To Kelly Monaco’s Final Day At GH
Rumors swirled in August that Monaco had been fired from the ABC sudser and that her alter-ego would meet an untimely fate sometime in the fall. The actress’s fans immediately mobilized to convince TPTB to reconsider the decision, employing online petitions, and billboards, and placing calls to both the GH Comment Line and the ABC Comment Line.
While a representative from GH refused to confirm or deny the claims, Monaco’s mother, Carmina Monaco, confirmed on X that a final scene had indeed been filmed and that Monaco had cleared out her dressing room.
In early October, Monaco uploaded a snap of her alongside play family — Kate Mansi (Kristina Corinthos Davis), Nancy Lee Grahn (Alexis Davis), and Kristen Vaganos (Molly Lansing-Davis) — which she captioned: “Last scene with the Davis girls. [Still] doesn’t make any sense to me.”
And though Monaco’s alter-ego breathed her last on Wednesday’s airshow, Soap Opera Digest reported that she’ll actually continue to appear until the end of the week (ending on November 1st).
