American fitness personality Richard Simmons, who was thrust back into the public’s consciousness following a series of alarming Facebook posts — the first of which seemed to allude to his immanent death and another in which he confided that he’d been diagnosed with skin cancer — is now detailing exactly when his battle began.
Richard Simmons Clears Up The Confusion
Simmons first set the internet ablaze with a missive that read in part, “I have some news to tell you. Please don’t be sad. I am….dying. Oh I can see your faces now. The truth is we all are dying. Every day we live we are getting closer to our death.”
Kneejerk reactions resulted in reports that the Sweating to the Oldies host was near death, but that fear was suitably mollified.
Simmons then went on to relay that he’d had a basal cell carcinoma removed from underneath his eye. Subsequently, publications far and wide reported on the story as if it was a recent development — but Simmons has since clarified that the diagnosis and the stinging removal procedure that “burned” his skin took place “many years ago.”
He said: ” “I have had a tremendous amount of responses on my message regarding skin cancer…The reason I wrote these two messages is that if you see a spot on your body please go to your doctor…so they can diagnose it right away. I guess I should be more careful about what I write about. “
