Tabyana Ali recently came under the attack of online trolls who spewed racist vitriol her way. The General Hospital star isn’t shying away from the haters, though. She’s showing up with her head held high and her voice stronger than ever.
Tabyana Ali Breaks Her Silence
The star recently wrote an op-ed piece for Deadline where she gave her thoughts on what went down and how it made her feel. In the piece, she wrote about her experience and that she hopes people learn and grow from her perspective.
“I first found out about the trolls from another cast member who was sharing their own experience with online bullying and explaining why they have their social media platforms set up the way they do.” Tabyana Ali wrote. “Eventually I got my own taste of it. It started out with the small things at first, but got progressively worse and eventually resulted in racially charged and life-threatening comments that were incredibly hurtful and damaging.”
The bullying continued to worsen and started to take a terrible toll on the star’s mental health. About this, she wrote: “At first, I didn’t pay them much attention. These people didn’t know me, and I didn’t know them, so their comments didn’t hold any value. But eventually, I started having self-esteem issues that led me to start questioning my self-worth.”
While many would shy away from responding and do their best to keep the peace, Ali decided it was high time to speak out. “I decided to say something because I was witnessing other soap stars, friends and castmates deal with hate, bigotry, and racism online and I wanted to take a stand.” Her post created a movement online, and with the show, who also posted about the hate the cast was receiving (see it here).
It’s not easy being in the spotlight and Tabyana Ali knows what she needs when it becomes too much. And, her way of coping is something everyone should also do. “When I’m tired of it, I’ll turn off my phone, touch some grass, see the sun, eat a delicious meal, and find something to do. Peace around the world for generations!”
