Only three days removed from their tragic loss, Johnny Wactor’s (ex-Brando Corbin, General Hospital) mother, Scarlett, and his two brothers, Lance and Grant, are speaking out on the circumstances surrounding the actor’s death.

Johnny Wactor’s Family Have Their Say

During the trio’s interview with TODAY correspondent Morgan Chesky, Scarlett relayed that her son had chanced upon a gang of thieves interfering with his vehicle after clocking off his second job at a downtown L.A. bar. “Johnny thought that he was being towed. He said, ‘Hey man, you’re towing my car.’ And when the person looked up they had on a mask and Johnny stepped in front of the co-worker and was shot.

The knowledge that her son passed protecting the life of another brings Scarlett some measure of comfort. But only just. She says: “I mean, you know, I use the word hero, and I’m thankful that person is okay. And that when he died, [Johnny] wasn’t alone.

As for the men who robbed her of one of her beloved children, and all for the catalytic converter off of his Toyota Prius, she termed them “cowards.”

In the aftermath of the tragedy, Scarlett has admitted to finding comfort in watching some of her favorite GH scenes featuring Johnny. Still, it’s cold. “As a parent, you never expect to bury a child.”
