There’s much to suss out about Dr. Alan Laurent, but don’t bother asking Christopher Cousins. As the actor explains to Soaps In Depth, he’s just as much in the dark about his Young and the Restless alter-ego as the rest of us.
Christopher Cousins On His New Role
“Eileen [Davidson, Ashley] is one of those people that you work with that it’s like you’ve known each other for 20 years right away. So I immediately felt very comfortable with her and we would rib each other right away. So that was great. But I didn’t know anything about the story,” confided Cousins to the outlet.
“Literally, I was learning what the story was while we were saying the lines because obviously, all this stuff happened off-camera. So it’s stuff that we have to talk about, our relationship, since I wasn’t on the show before. But she’s amazing.”
As for Alan’s predicament, namely discovering that Ashley is in the throes of battling several alters, Cousins could but offer, “It’s very sticky…as far as I’m concerned, my character is deeply in love with Ashley, so he’s conflicted about his own feelings [and] doesn’t want to bring them into the mix. Clearly, she’s not in a place for that. There’s all sorts of stuff going on.”
And it’s that “all sorts of stuff” that’s no doubt going to keep fans glued to their TV screens as Ashley’s (and indeed Alan’s) story progresses.
