During his sit-down with Soap Opera Digest, wee thespian Judah Mackey was quick to point out that Connor’s recent OCD diagnosis is but one in a long line of socially relevant tales spotlighting mental health, so he has no doubt that The Young and the Restless will handle the storyline with “care.”
Judah Mackey Talks Latest Storyline
Given that intrusive OCD doesn’t have a “quick fix”, Mackey relayed that he was “[looking] forward to seeing how Connor copes with his condition.”
On what he hopes people will learn from Connor’s story, Mackey said: “I hope Connor’s story helps to change the way some people think and talk about mental health — to not make judgments or assumptions or dismiss someone else’s condition. People can really be struggling on the inside, and they may not show it on the outside.
“I learned that 1 in 5 children has a significant impairing mental disorder but less than half get the treatment they need. Also, half of all lifetime mental illness starts by age 14. I hope people know that they are not alone and it’s okay to ask for help. OCD can really disrupt someone’s life but with the right treatment, it can be manageable. So, it makes me feel good that I can help bring awareness to that.”
