Shemar Moore and Justin Harley have more in common than merely executive producing and headlining their own fan-favorite primetime programs on CBS — both started out on the Tiffany Network’s smash soapie The Young and the Restless.

Moore, who played Malcolm Winters from 1994–2002 and 2004–2005 with occasional guest appearance since (the latest in 2023), was struck by the coincidence, promoting Hartley to recall his own “two-year run about ten years ago.” Upon being apprised that his co-interviewee portrayed a Newman, Moore could but tease, “Oh you were in the fancy family.”
Moore went on to remember “beautiful soul” Kristoff St. John. “He was the dude that show. I had watched him, and friends in college had watched him. He just embraced me figuratively and literally and said, ‘You’re green but I got you. It’s going to take time, but you’re going to learn and you’re going to be great.'”
