The Spencer house grew by one this week when Crew Morrow entered the scene as Dollar Bill Spencer’s youngest son, Will. We here at Daily Drama got the chance to talk to the daytime newcomer about his first days on the Bold and the Beautiful set, his famous real-life father, and we got some juicy tidbits on what’s to come for Will Spencer!
Crew Morrow Dishes on Will Spencer
How are you finding your time on set so far?
It’s the best. I work with the greatest people ever. It’s been nothing but wonderful. I’ve got the greatest cast mates in the world.
Could you tell me about your audition process and what that was like for you?
The audition process was interesting. I did three auditions in total. The first one was a screencast where you set up a tripod and some lights in your living room and give it a go. And I remember doing that with my mom. I typically would do it with one of my roommates but I was in town so I had my mom do it and, to her credit, she did fantastic. She got me a callback.
About a week later, I read in front of Christy Dooley and I flubbed my lines. I thought I royally screwed up and I could not get it. But, then I got the call maybe like a month or so later that there would be one final end-all-be-all audition.
Originally, they were just gonna scrap the role but they said, hey, last audition in front of Brad Bell. So I got prepared, did my thing, and walked in with some swag like Will, and got it done.
You’ve grown up with a very famous soap opera father and everyone wants to know what it was like having Joshua Morrow for a dad and if that influenced you to go into acting.
He’s the greatest father ever. I look up to him and everything I do. I mean, he’s my hero there. There was never really a time when I was younger that I wanted to do what my father did. I knew he was on TV and that was cool but, I was much too content with playing baseball and pursuing other things that weren’t necessarily daytime television. And then, I guess I really got bit by the acting bug big time two years ago.
From there, he gave me all the advice I could ever ask for. I mean, he’s been giving me advice for the last 19 years of my life. He’s been nothing but supportive and nothing but helpful and [he’s] probably the greatest line reader there is.
What can we expect from the new Will Spencer? Will he be a down-to-earth guy like his brother Liam or will he be a powerhouse like his dad?
That’s a great question. I’d like to think that he picks up Liam’s good qualities. But man, he loves his dad so much. There’s obviously a strange relationship there to play with and there’s the idea of him wanting to be like his father, but I just don’t see Will becoming that powerhouse. I think he’s not kinder. At the end of the day, I hope he takes some of Bill’s qualities and Liam’s qualities.
You’re playing a grown-up version of Will. and you basically right now have the opportunity to cultivate him any way you want him because nobody’s played well as an adult. What do you want for his future?
I would love someone to butt heads with. I want an enemy. RJ (Joshua Hoffman) would be a good pairing because our dads go at it, so why not have the sons go at it? That could be cool. I’d also love, uh a love of interest for him. Let’s see how he is romantically. I’d like to explore. that. It is a soap opera at the end of the day.
Will is coming home at a time when there’s a lot of chaos in the household. Can we expect Will to get in the middle of the war between Katie and Poppy?
I hope I don’t get in the middle of a war between those two. I think I’ll let them do their thing. Hopefully. I think I’ll always side with my mother. Will’s got very strong feelings for his mother and not so much for this stranger stepmother in his home.
How are you meshing with your TV mom (Katie, Heather Tom) and dad (Dollar Bill, Don Diamont) on set?
My first couple of scenes were with them. and they are just incredible. They’re veterans, seasoned pros and they had a lot of advice for me. They had a lot of words of wisdom and truth to share and I’m just learning a lot, just learning a lot.
Heather was the one who actually told me some things about my character, especially Will being the only Spencer’s son to grow up with that sort of affluence and wealth. As a child, the other brothers didn’t have that. So I think with that comes a certain sense of swag, some ego, you know.
One last question…what is one fun fact about you that not a whole lot of people know?
I am a martial arts fanatic. I love watching it. I love all the different art forms and I wrestled in high school a little bit. I’m big into that world so that’s a fun fact.
