Sean Kanan’s (Deacon Sharpe, The Bold and the Beautiful) most recent return to the Karate Kid universe sees him in very familiar, and wholly nostalgic, territory.
Sean Kanan Back In Kobra Ki
The actor took to Instagram with a video he captioned, “A little behind the scenes…” The place — make that, the special place? Mr Miyagi’s iconic garden. To quote the slightly stunned actor, “Who’d have thunk it?”

Kanan reprised his role of Mike Barnes — which he originated in the third Karate Kid film — in the fourth episode of Kobra Ki‘s recently released sixth season. This marks his third appearance in the series, having guest-starred in two season-five installments.
In his latest outing, Kanan’s alter-ego oversaw a series of grueling tests undertaken by the dojo’s roster of students — but not before issuing the assemblage quite the…um…pep(?) talk.
Just prior to the airing of his encore, Kanan revealed to Entertainment Weekly that he’d put off a surgery in the hopes that he’d be asked back. “Before I even knew that I was going to come back for season 6, I met with my surgeon [to discuss a rotator cuff injury, and was told] ‘Look, if we do this surgery [now], if they call you for season 6, there’s no way you can do [the show].'” And indeed such a call came. Talk about manifesting a job!
