ABC is set to defend itself against religious discrimination claims filed by two former General Hospital employees who were fired for their refusal to follow the company’s blanket COVID-19 vaccination mandates.
ABC To Face Trial Over GH Firings
As laid out by The Hollywood Reporter (who was the first to break the story), a Los Angeles judge has found that James and Timothy Wahl may have indeed had “sincerely held” religious beliefs that ABC should have accommodated by affording them exemptions and allowing them to follow safety protocols implemented before mandatory vaccination policies were rolled out.
This comes after the network successfully fended off actor Ingo Rademacher’s (ex-Jasper Jax) similar suit. In that case, it was ruled that there were no conceivable workarounds for unvaccinated, unmasked actors who would be putting their co-stars at risk.
However, when it comes to the terminated father-and-son duo, who both worked in the special effects department, the court ruled that the studio may have discriminated against them on the basis of their religious beliefs by refusing to find a workaround.
Per THR, “The court also found that ABC could have afforded the Wahls accommodations without undue financial or logistical hardship.”
