The real drama at General Hospital is unfolding behind the scenes. Chris Van Etten, who served as co-head writer during two separate regimes (opposite Shelly Altman from July 2017 to July 2019 and Dan O’Connor between July 2019 and January 2024), has been tapped to toil alongside incumbent Elizabeth Korte.
More Changes Behind The Scenes At General Hospital
The first episode overseen by the duo will first air on Thursday, August 8. In addition, breakdown and dialoguer Cath LePard has been promoted to associated head writer.
Executive Producer Frank Valentini said in a statement to Soap Opera Digest: “No one knows General Hospital and its history more than Elizabeth and Chris. Cathy joined the show in 2023, and her talent and love for the genre has been a tremendous asset to this team. We look forward to this dynamic writing combination continuing the legacy of the show and giving our fans much to look forward to.”
A scant four months after his dismissal from the top spot — following the announcement that Korte and Patrick Mulcahey (who we’d be shown the door himself forthwith) would assume plotting duties — Van Etten rejoined the writing team as a breakdown writer.
In the coming months, GH is poised to reintroduce a number of fan favorites including three-time Daytime Emmy Award winner Rick Hearst (Rick Lansing), Emma Samms’ Holly Sutton, and Jonathan Jackson’s Lucky Spencer. The soap is also currently looking to recast the role of Lulu Spencer, last played by Emme Ryan.
