His alter-ego suffered all sorts of medical maladies, from concussions to a stroke, a bullet to the throat to a brain tumor, and more hits to the face and body than Reggie Strickland, but what Marcus Coloma can say that he and General Hospital‘s Nikolas Cassadine have in common is heart surgery.
Marcus Coloma Details Health Scare
The actor shared that he’d undergone “a heart procedure on Monday” with his Instagram audience and detailed that: “For the last three or four years, there was this secret thought in my head that I was dying. And I knew I was being dramatic, but it was still there, and it was depressing, and there was something wrong, but no one could tell me what it was.
“Finally, a physical therapist checked my heart [and said’ ‘Wow, that’s weird.’ Finally, though, a physical therapist checked out his heart and reacted with, “‘Wow, that’s weird.’ That opened the door. I ended up going to a cardiologist and having the procedure done.
And he said, ‘In 40 years, thousands of surgeries, I’ve never seen a heart like yours.’ We all knew my heart was one in a million, right? The good news is, now that it’s fixed, there won’t be any more problems and I should be healthy. And I’m very grateful.”

And while Colima didn’t get into the specifics of his ailment or the surgery itself in the video proper, he did respond to several inquiring fans in the comments section.
To one, he wrote that his ticker had “extra fiber that was also an extra pathway that was causing a constant elevated heart rate,” and later explained that he’d had an “ablation” a typically minimally invasive surgery that uses heat, cold, or lasers to destroy abnormal tissue.
Coloma also enthused: “I can’t believe how much better it feels just knowing what was going on and that it’s done!”
