Like many a beloved character presumed dead only to return alive and well, long-canceled daytime soap All My Children might be poised for a triumphant resurrection.
All My Children May Return To Television
TVLine has reported that “multiple sources” have confirmed to them that preliminary discussions are underway between The Walt Disney Company and Lifetime to bring AMC back to screens via “a TV-movie franchise featuring legacy characters.”
Per the outlet, “An insider cautions that the talks are in the early stages, with one source describing the conversations as “’exploratory.'”
UPDATE: After initially declining to comment, a rep of Lifetime confirmed to TVLine that there are two AMC films in development, one of which would be holiday-themed. (Note: “In development” does not necessarily mean that a project will eventuate.)
After initially declining to comment, a Lifetime rep is now confirming TVLine’s exclusive report, adding that there are two AMC movies in development, one of which would be holiday-themed.
AMC ran on ABC from 1970 to 2011. In 2013, it was briefly revived in spring/summer 2013 on the Online Network (alongside fellow snuffed sudser One Life to Live).
Back in 2020, ABC announced that it had partnered with former AMC stars (and spouses) Kelly Ripa and Mark Consuelos to develop a continuation that would air in primetime. Titled Pine Valley, it would have concerned “a young reporter with a secret agenda who arrives in town to bring Pine Valley’s deadly history to light. Naturally, she gets tied up in a feud between the Santos and Kane families.”
ICYMI: Kelly Ripa was one of 14 Recent Disney Legend Inductees
In addition to Ripa and Conseulos, that iteration would have been executive-produced by Andrew Stearn, Leo Richardson, who penned the pilot script, and Robert Nixon, the son of Agnes Nixon, the late creatrix of AMC.
In the intervening years since its cancellation, AMC has been kept alive with various mentions on sister-show General Hospital (only last month Cynthia Watros’s Nina was prevented from keeping a meeting with Erica Kane) as well as the inclusion of some of its characters, including Walt Willey’s Jackson Montgomery.
The announcement comes at a most auspicious time for the genre as CBS is readying for the January debut of The Gates, the first new daytime soap in 25 years.
