Live co-host Kelly Ripa, who spent 12 years as All My Children‘s perpetually-in-peril Hayley Vaughan Santos, is one of fourteen set to become a Disney Legend.
2024 Disney Legends Lineup
Joining Ripa on the honorees list are: Acadamy Award winning actress Jamie Lee Curtis (known to a Disney audience for her work in Freaky Friday), Angela Basset (9-1-1; What’s Love Got to Do With It et al.), Miley Cyrus (Hannah Montana), Harrison Ford (Star Wars and Indiana Jones), James L. Brooks (creator of Taxi and co-developer of The Simpsons), Steve Diko (co-creator of Spider-man and creator of Doctor Strange), Mark Henn (lead animator of Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, young Simba, Mulan, and Tiana), Frank Oz (director and puppeteer), Joe Rohde (lead designer for Disney’s Animal Kingdom attraction), Colleen Atwood (award winning costume designer), Martha Blanding (Senior Manager, Disneyland Resort Merchandise Special Events; co-founded PULSE; and the first black Disney Parks employee to receive this honor), composer John Williams (Jaws, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, Superman, Jurassic Park et al.), and Oscar-winning director James Cameron (The Terminator, Aliens, Titanic, the Avatar franchise, et al.)
At 31, Cyrus is now the youngest honoree to ever be named a Disney Legend, while Ripa is the second AMCer to receive the prestigious award, following in Susan Lucci’s footsteps.
Said Walt Disney Company Chief Executive Officer Bob Iger in a statement: “To be named a Disney Legend is the highest honor our company can bestow on anyone, reserved for those whose talent and achievement have earned them an enduring place in our history. The fourteen individuals to be honored as Disney Legends this year have each made extraordinary creative contributions across the worlds of Disney and we look forward to celebrating them at D23: The Ultimate Disney Fan Event.”
The 2024 Disney Legends Awards Ceremony will take place Sunday, August 11 at 5:00 PM PT at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, and is set to feature tributes to the honorees present, special guests, live performances, “and a legendary production like no other,” per Disney. Uber host Ryan Seacrest (American Idol, American Top 40, and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve) will emcee the event.
