Prolific actress Barbara Rush, who conquered stage, screen, and television, passed away Sunday, March 31. She was 97.
Barbara Rush, Rest In Peace
Rush’s daughter, Fox News senior correspondent Claudia Cowan, confirmed the news to Fox News Digital. She relayed: “My wonderful mother passed away peacefully at 5:28 this evening. I was with her this morning and know she was waiting for me to return home safely to transition. It’s fitting she chose to leave on Easter as it was one of her favorite holidays and now, of course, Easter will have a deeper significance for me and my family.”
Rush was one of the many additions to Peyton Place‘s overhauled fifth and final season. Her alter-ego, Marsha Russell suffered under the yoke of adulterous lug Fred Russell whom she eventually divorced. Masha and dependable Dr. Rossi (Ed Nelson) were alter bound until he was arrested and charged with Fred’s murder!
Rush is also no doubt known to All My Children fans for her turn as Nola Orsini who mistook amnesiac Tad Martin for her own son Ted. (The mistake, of course, was understandable as actor Michael E. Knight portrayed both men.)
Her TV credits also include Flamingo Road (in which she played Eudora Weldon), Magnum, P.I., The Love Boat, Murder, She Wrote, and 7th Heaven.
On the film side, Rush appeared in Bigger Than Life, Robin and the 7 Hoods, It Came From Outer Space — for which she won a Golden Globe (New Star of the Year, Actress) — and a trilogy of pictures helmed by Douglas Sirk (The First Legion, Magnificent Obsession, and Captain Lightfoot) amongst a plethora of others.
Rush is survived by her daughter, a son, and a niece – actress Carolyn Hennessy (Diane Miller, General Hospital).
