Our girl Steffy has brought up the idea of being an egg donor and a surrogate for someone named Daphne. And Finn? He’s having none of it!
It sounds like Finn is going to lay down the law, essentially telling Steffy, ‘Don’t be Daphne’s surrogate!’ And honestly, as much as I adore Steffy, I can’t say I’m entirely surprised by Finn’s reaction, nor by Steffy’s wild proposition.
Steffy’s History of Heartbreak and Helpfulness: A Fan’s Perspective
Now, we all know Steffy. Our girl has a history with baby drama that could fill an entire season of its own. Remember the heartbreaking miscarriage with Liam Spencer (Scott Clifton) way back when? The one that almost broke her completely? Or the absolute gut-wrenching trauma of Phoebe being Beth Spencer, which tore her world apart and left her spiraling into addiction? She’s been through the wringer when it comes to motherhood, experiencing both profound loss and the joy of raising Kelly (Sophia Paras McKinlay) and Hayes (Iliana and Vienna Johnson).
So, when I hear Steffy’s contemplating this, a tiny part of me thinks, ‘Oh, Steffy, honey, haven’t you had enough baby drama for ten lifetimes?’ But then another, larger part of me, the part that’s watched her evolve from a fiery young woman to a fiercely protective mother, understands her impulse. Steffy, deep down, has a massive heart. She’s always been someone who wants to fix things, to help others, especially when it comes to family and children. It’s a trait she shares with her mother, Taylor Hayes (Krista Allen), who has always been the ultimate caregiver.
This isn’t the first time B&B has explored surrogacy, either! Long-time fans will recall the intricate storyline where Brooke Logan (Katherine Kelly Lang) was a surrogate for her own daughter, Bridget Forrester (Ashley Jones), only for the baby to turn out to be Ridge Forrester’s (Thorsten Kaye) and not Nick Marone’s (Jack Wagner). And let’s not forget Taylor being a surrogate for Nick and Bridget as well! So, the show has a rich history of mixing reproductive drama with classic soap opera angst. It’s fertile ground for conflict, pun absolutely intended!
Finn’s Stance: Doctor’s Orders or Husband’s Plea?
Dr. John ‘Finn’ Finnegan (Tanner Novlan), bless his steady, medical heart, is obviously reeling. He’s a man of science, a man who values stability, and let’s be honest, he’s probably thinking, ‘Didn’t I marry the woman to *escape* the incessant drama, not dive headfirst into more of it?’ He’s seen Steffy’s struggles firsthand, especially with the Sheila Carter (Kimberlin Brown) of it all, and he’s worked hard to bring peace and normalcy to their lives.
From a medical perspective, surrogacy is a serious undertaking, with risks for both the surrogate and the baby. Finn, as a doctor, would be acutely aware of these.
