If there’s ever been a character who has come into her own and totally transformed herself over the course of a year, it’s The Bold and the Beautiful’s Hope Logan. Not only is her physical appearance different, but so is her entire outlook on life.
Hope Logan Finds Her Voice
When 2023 began, Hope (Annika Noelle) was still furious at Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) for setting her mother up to take the fall for a false CPS call regarding their son Douglas (Henry Jospeh Samiri). She was still a loyal wife to Liam Spencer, a man who was happy to know he had a wife who would do whatever he asked. She also still dressed in fairly conservative clothing for someone with their own fashion line while wearing her hair in an innocent style down her back.
The change in Hope began when she was left with the decision of whether to hire Thomas back as lead designer for Hope For The Future. She was told the choice was hers, but Liam (Scott Clifton) wanted the choice to be his and demanded Hope leave Thomas out in the cold.
Despite horrible things Thomas had done, Hope always felt a connection to the man and her forgiving nature wanted to give him another chance. However, she told Liam she wouldn’t and prepared herself to let Thomas down. However, when the moment came to tell the Forrester Creations team her decision, she made a split-second choice to say yes, Thomas could indeed be her lead designer once again.
From there, we saw Hope’s conflict for months as she started having pretty steamy fantasies about Thomas she tried to erase from her head. But, when she’d make love to Liam, all she would see was another man. As she and Thomas created a new line together, they worked many late nights, took a few business trips, and grew closer than ever.
By the time Hope and Thomas were in Rome high on the success of a fashion photoshoot, Hope broke free of the good-girl persona she’d strived for since her teens and pulled Thomas in for a kiss. We expected her to immediately pull away, horrified by her actions, but instead, she pulled him in for another smooch and proceeded to go on a date with him as they walked through the streets of Rome hand in hand.
Little did Hope know that Liam had arrived in Rome and saw the whole thing. As he angrily taunted her, screamed in her face, and lied about not running to Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) within minutes (and kissing her), Hope seemed to break but that break was only temporary. Rather than taking the licks from Liam, she finally felt free — and free enough to run to Thomas and be who she was always meant to be.
Hope Emerges From The Ashes
A week (in real-time, one evening in soap time) in bed with Thomas in which she was the aggressor and Thomas just stared in amazement as his years-long dreams came true brought out a completely new side of Hope that continues to shine as the year closes.
She admitted she never felt a connection like the one she felt with Thomas with anyone before. After being coerced into losing her virginity to Liam by her own mother when she was still in her late teens, Hope learned that sex could actually be good while also relishing the feeling of being with a man who loved her and only her.
In the ensuing months, we saw Hope’s demeanor change along with her physical appearance. Her hair gradually became shorter with added blonde highlights while her clothing choices became more bold, daring, and sultry.
She also became more assertive, chose to go after what she wanted no matter what anyone thought, and slowly began to fall for Thomas on more of an emotional level after telling him she just wanted to keep their relationship casual.
The transformation is still taking place as 2023 comes to an end and Hope still tries to cope with her feelings after years of emotional abuse from Liam (and some would even say Brooke). However, there’s a smile on her face that actually seems genuine and that’s an incredible transformation for this character, indeed.
Now, what will a little ring, a big secret, and 2024 bring?
