Taking over the role of Taylor Hayes, The Bold and the Beautiful‘s world-renowned psychiatrist, was no easy feat for soap hopper Rebecca Budig — not the least of which was because her alter-ego was soon to succumb to congestive heart failure…except, she wasn’t. As it turns out, the good doctor was merely suffering from a textbook case of “Broken Heart Syndrome.”

And while Budig wasn’t familiar with the very real diagnosis, she did share with Michael Fairman that, ” I know someone who has had a broken heart and has had a lot of symptoms similar to what my character’s going through; not that she was formally diagnosed, but I do think that it is a real thing.”
What’s more, the storyline didn’t much phase the veteran actress — even when it required her to *eh um* straddle costar Thorsten Kaye (Ridge Forrester). “I’ve done a lot of things over the years. This is not as crazy as some of the things I’ve done.”
Speaking of Thorsten, and the character that he plays, Budig mused: “Ridge is Taylor’s soulmate. I worked with Thorsten at All My Children (when he played Zack Slater), but I never really had one-on-one scenes with him. So, I didn’t really get to experience what it was like working with him. I think there’s a comfort in that and a familiarity, and I really love that. I’m really excited. I know Ridge is with Brooke, but I don’t know.”
But for the moment, per Budig, Taylor is “focused on her health. She’s focused on being with her kids, well at least Steffy (Jacqueline MacInnes Wood) and her grandkids, and I think she’s just trying to stay the course.”
