While many couldn’t fathom Deacon’s abiding love for Sheila on The Bold and the Beautiful (and off – if fan reaction is anything to go by), the former’s portrayer understood it all too well.

During a recent chat with Soap Hub’s Michael Maloney at The Hollywood Show, Kanan was asked to detail what his alter-ego saw in Sheila that other people didn’t.

Aside from her being “smart as hell,” “beautiful,” and “funny,” the actor reasoned, “I think a part of it is it snuck up on him. I don’t think he saw it coming, and then it just hit him. Deacon and Sheila had a really unique chemistry. It’s uncommon. The harder Deacon tried to kick her out and send her on her way the more he really wanted her to stay. And by the time she met her demise, he was emotionally in deep.”
