Sheila’s latest death (or is it “death”) on The Bold and the Beautiful got us thinking about what the show is like without the worst of the worst dialing up the drama. While peace and quiet is good for a little while, what’s the fun in that? Here are three reasons the show needs to bring on the wicked!
More Fun For Everyone (Well, Us)
What is the soap world without feuds and showdowns? Oh, sure, it’s fun to watch Brooke (Katherine Kelly Lang) and Taylor smash cake in each other’s faces, but you know what’s more fun? Watching one of them be terrorized by their enemies.
Seeing a fan favorite struggling against all odds to rise up to save themselves is one of the most satisfying parts of being a soap fan. Who doesn’t like a good David and Goliath story on daytime tv?
Enemies To Frenemies
Even better is when rivals have to team up to defeat their mutual haters. Who would have thought Ridge (Thorsten Kaye) and Dollar Bill (Don Diamont) would be on the same side in any argument? Watching them work together to take down Sheila (Kimberlin Brown) was definitely a sight to see!
Having to rely on those they despise is wildly fun to watch. We get to see the characters react to each other in all new ways and see a new side to their up-and-down (mostly down) relationships — all while hoping they’ll stay this way while knowing in a few weeks they’ll be back to duking it out.
Redemption…And The Fall
Perhaps one of the best tropes is when a villain turns their life around…until they don’t. The guessing game of “Are they better now or is this a game?” keeps fans on their toes and constantly on the lookout for clues and signs.
Just look at how things are going with Thomas (Matthew Atkinson) right now. He’s a man in love who seems to have changed (almost) all his old ways. Yet, here we are all waiting for the second shoe to drop. And, if (when) it does, all hell will break loose (and we can’t wait!).
