Days of our Lives stalwarts Stephen Nichols (Steve Johnson) and Mary Beth Evans (Kayla Brady Johnson) have been onscreen sweethearts for nigh on four decades — minus all that time his alter-ego was presumed dead (which time, we hear you ask!) — headed off all manner of interloper, evil-doer, and medical malady, and kept eyes only for each other…barring that one time Kayla went sniffing around her sister’s former and future hubby!

“For us, unlike today’s coupledoms, we were put together from day one, and it’s always been about us,” touted Evans to Swoon. “There were different things that broke us up or whatever, but they always loved each other. They never didn’t love each other. That’s not how it is at all today. I feel like we’re one of the last holdouts in that, but I love it, and I feel so lucky.

Added Nichols: “We’re a couple who has always loved one another, and when we were not together, when we were apart, it was always because something happened, and she thought I was gone or dead or divorced. We were never not together in our minds. We were always in love.”
And should The Powers That Be at the Peacock sudser ever try to tear the pair asunder, be it on their own heads! “I’d quit. I’d walk,” insists Nichols. “There’s no way. I’m telling you the truth…. I mean, this has just got to stay.”
