At 98 years old, Dick Van Dyke has become the oldest nominee in Daytime Emmy history, a historic first that the living legend finds “very exciting.”
Dick Van Dyke On Daytime Emmy Nomination
Dyke tittered to People “After all, it took me 75 years and my pal Drake Hogestyn to get on a soap opera! He is really the reason this happened and deserves the credit and thanks.”
The “this” being, of course, Dyke’s four-episode-turn as amnesiac Timothy Robicheaux on Days of our Lives.
Continued the actor: “This is a very different honor for me; I seldom get recognized for dramatic or straight acting – comedy and musicals are my specialty after all. I’m so honored and it will be a fun night celebrating with the entire daytime television community.”
Dyke has some mighty formidable competition for the Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series statuette, namely, Guy Pearce (Mike Young, Neighbours), Linden Ashby (ex-Cameron Kirsten, The Young and the Restless), Ashley Jones (ex-Bridget Forrester, The Bold and the Beautiful), and the previous year’s winner Alley Mills (Heather Webber, General Hospital).
The 51st Annual Daytime Emmy Awards ceremony will be telecast on Friday, June 7 at 8 PM EDT/Delayed PT on CBS (with a concurrent live stream and the ability to watch on-demand on Paramount+). Will you be rooting for Dick Van Dyke on the big night? Let us know in the comments section below.
