Kassie DePaiva from Days of Our Lives has been through a lot lately. She has had a lot of health issues and at one point in her life, she was overwhelmed with them all. A few years back, she was diagnosed with leukemia and then she found out some even worse news. In 2016, Kassie was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia. That was just shortly after she had gone back to Days of Our Lives to play Eve Donovan. She was in the middle of filming and she just felt as if something was wrong. She recently opened up on the Dishing with Digest podcast and said, “I went to a country jamboree up at Hunter Mountain and I’m sitting on a chair lift… I feel under my arn, I go, ‘That’s weird.’ I felt two knots. So I thought, ‘Hmmm.’ And they weren’t painful. I know I didn’t feel bad, nothing.” She knew that she had to call her doctor so she set up an appointment and was concerned about what they found.
Kassie’s Diagnosis
When Kassie was able to get in to see her doctor, they did a biopsy on the two knots. What she thought would be breast cancer ended up being leukemia. However, she wasn’t in the clear quite yet. She added, “I did get breast cancer a year later. I laugh and am like, ‘Can you believe it?’ But I had a lumpectomy and everything was clear and so right now, as it stands, I’m cancer-free and happy.”
Kassie had to deal with having chemotherapy just right after her leukemia diagnosis. It wasn’t easy for her at all. “I was explaining how chemo is just so awful for your body and how it’s not day to day, it’s minute to minute. You know, you think, ‘Okay, I’m gonna be good,’ and then you get up, and all of a sudden your body eliminates… I mean it was, are you faint or are you gonna throw up? It’s yucky and you just think, ‘This is never gonna end,’ and then it does and then you go, ‘Did I go through with that?’ I cannot believe it, and that’s kind of where I am now with, like, ‘I can’t believe the journey’, but I’m grateful.”
When Kassie was diagnosed with leukemia, she opened up to her fans about it and asked for their prayers and healing energy. It was a lot for her to handle, but she has been doing very well since she was given a clean bill of health. She continues to keep herself as healthy as she can and is enjoying life cancer-free. Her fans have been so happy to see her getting back onto the soap and now she has an even bigger surprise for the fans of General Hospital.
Back On General Hospital with a Spin
Kassie is known for her roles on soaps and now she is coming back to General Hospital to take on the role of Blair Cramer. She hasn’t played this character in over ten years, but she is ready to make her fans happy with the new version of it. She told her fans, “It was hard getting back into those high-heeled shoes. Ok, and putting on the tight skirt. OK. All of a sudden, I’ve got to walk and talk and hold my stomach at the same time. That’s a tough thing to do and be, like, charismatic and try to show some talent. But it was fun. I loved it.”
Blair is coming back and fans can tune into General Hospital to see her on Monday, September 18 on ABC.
